Ethel Koszman, formerly of Weyburn, passed away peacefully in High River, Alberta on April 4, 2017 at the age of 93. Ethel was born in Rama, SK to George and Ann Kowalyshyn, November 13, 1923. She was predeceased by husband John in 1965; partner Joe Janeczko 2011; grandson Mark in 2012; her brother Mike and her sister Mary. She is survived by her loving family: sisters Anne and Olga, brother Bill (Olive), daughter Nancy (Terry), son David (Alice), daughter Rosemary (Matt); grandchildren John (Lorna), Deanne, Natalie (Dan), Kim (Scott), Jonathon (Jenny), Jeff (Shammah); great grandchildren Derek and Eryn Michelle. Mom farmed and gardened her whole life until she moved into a care home in 2011. She was an active member in the Ukrainian Catholic Church both in Tribune and Weyburn. Mom was known for her welcoming nature to all visitors and always offered either a meal or a snack. Her culinary skills were loved by everyone (family, friends, community) 鈥� perogies, cabbage rolls, borscht, baked bread and her awesome 鈥渁pple pies鈥�. She always produced a huge garden and shared the abundance with friends and neighbours. Family enjoyed her wit and humor and the many 鈥減olitical鈥� discussions. She was a real card shark, especially if she could change the rules as the game went along. Her constant companion on the farm was her dog 鈥淩ex鈥� 鈥� she loved him dearly and missed him immensely when she left the farm. We all have many fond memories of mom and especially family gatherings at the farm, we always had a great time with lots of laughter. Mom will be greatly missed by her family, relatives, friends and all the many people she touched in her lifetime with her gentleness, kindness and compassion. Prayers were held Sunday, April 9, at 7:00 p.m. from RD Family Funeral Chapel, Weyburn.. A Funeral Service was held Monday, April 10, at 10:30 a.m. from the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church, Weyburn, with Rev. Fr. Andrei Kachur celebrant. Pallbearers were: John Stephenson, Jonathon Flaman, Jeffrey Flaman, Scott Fox, Dan Styles, Joe Glab. Honorary Pallbearers were: Terry Stephenson, Matt Flaman, Deanne Stephenson, Natalie Styles, Derek Stephenson, Kim Fox, Eryn Michelle Stephenson and Jim Hutt. Lunch was held at the McKenna Hall, Weyburn. Interment followed at the Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Tribune. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations in memory of Ethel may be made to the Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Church, Box 98, Tribune, SK, S0C 2M0.
