It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of Esther Stephenson on June 8, 2013 after a courageous struggle with cancer. Esther will always be remembered for her smile, giggle and having a good laugh. She was always concerned about the well being of her family and tended to be a worrier. Esther was born in Lang March 17, 1928. She attended school in Lang and then worked in the local store before her marriage to Stanley. They lived and raised their family of four children on the Stephenson homestead west of Lang. Esther enjoyed the sport of curling, old time music, flowers, gardening and baking. Her fried chicken was everyone's favorite. After Stan's passing in 1979 she moved in to Lang and resided in her own home until 2011. She depended on the many friends, neighbours and relatives who stopped in to visit or chat with her on the phone. Although she was not one to attend social functions she was always interested in the details of the event. She endured many years of discomfort with arthritis but never complained and didn't want to be seen using a cane or walker. More friendships were gained in Weyburn when she moved in to Hilltop Manor in 2011 and then to Tatagwa View House 1 in 2012. Esther was predeceased by her husband, Stanley Stephenson; her parents, Alvina and Karl Fahr; sisters: Lydia, Ida, Phyllis, Lillian and her brother, Emil. Esther is survived by her children: Sharon (Dennis), Judy (Tom) and their family: Ryan, Kari (Keith), Larry (Roberta) and their family: Crystal (Brandon) and their children [Mikayla, Scarlett and Willow], Darren (Meghan) and their children [Ezekiel and Eli], Tressa (Luke) and their children [Aaliyah, Jude and Karis], Charlene (Scott) and her children: Ashley (Blake) and their daughter [Emily], Cheryl and their father, Wade; two sisters: Olga, Irene (Allan); sister-in-law: Mary (Robin) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Our sincerest thank you to all the health care workers who cared for mom in Regina and Weyburn. Those of you who went the extra mile and provided the special extras did not go unnoticed. The visits, phone calls, cards, flowers and gifts she received brought her much happiness. A celebration of Esther's life was held on Wednesday, June 12 at 2:00 p.m. in the Lang Community Hall with Judy Beck, officiating. Interment followed at Lang Cemetery, Lang. For family and friends so wishing, donations in memory of Esther may be made to the Arthritis Society of Saskatchewan, 2550, 12th Ave. Suite 110, Regina, SK S4P 3X1 or to a charity of choice.
