Edna Hill

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Edna Hill, late of Weyburn, on April 17, 2013 at the age of 93. She passed away peacefully at Tatagwa View Nursing Home with family by her side. Edna was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband, David in 1997; parents, John and Lena Hartenberger; grandson, Brad Green; great grandchildren, Cody Green, and Reid Jones; and brothers, Fred (Erna) Hartenberger, and Albert (Hazel) Hartenberger. Edna is survived by her children, Loretta Carriere of Weyburn, Doreen (Frank) Van De Weyer of Halbrite, Ken (Laurie) Hill of Weyburn; grandchildren, Gary (Marcy) Hill, Deanna (Robert) Martin, Lana Green, Rocky Pow, Shannon Yung; great grandchildren, Dallas Jones, Alicia (Gaven Thomas) Jones, Tyler (Shelly Farnden) Jones, Renee Green, Serrina Green, Amber Hill, Wyatt Pow, Hunter Pow, Shaniya Yung, Shauntay Yung; 11 great great grandchildren, and one brother, Ken (Myrna) Hartenberger; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Edna was born December 5, 1919 at Woodley. She was the oldest of four, and the only girl. Dave and Edna met at a school house dance where Dave, his brother Fred, and uncle Gerald were supplying the music. Dad always said it was love at first sight. Dave and Edna were married on October 15, 1940. They first lived on the Bill Maybe farm north of Benson, doing the winter chores. In the spring of 1941 they moved to Forget. In 1942 Dave and Edna moved back to Benson where their first daughter, Loretta, was born. There they endured many winter storms and hardships. In 1944 they moved to Assa School district, and rented land there. In 1945 their second daughter, Doreen, was born. In 1950 they again moved back to Benson on her Mom and Dad's farm. They rented this land until 1953 when they made their biggest move. They had an auction sale, and moved to Weyburn, this was a very big change for the family. In 1957 their only son, Ken, was born. Not only a big event for Mom and Dad, but also what a joy he was to us girls. Mom spent a lot of her time helping families with housework; she did this for many years. These families became a very important part of her life, they were family. She always loved their visits, and their outings. Thank you to these families for all the love they gave Mom. She loved old time, and country music, loved dancing, and loved going to dances, especially when family members were playing. She enjoyed camping with family and friends, and especially the annual Country Music Cancer Jam at Nickle Lake, not missing one of the 22 that were held. She had a special smile on her face when Ken (The Yahoo's band) would perform. Mom camped in her own camper until she was 91, with her family near by. She especially loved all the family get-togethers. She lived in Bison Manor for a number of years, and made many good friends. Mom moved to Tatagwa View in October of 2011. Mom's greatest joy was her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a very loving Mom, and grandmother. She was always proud of her family, and her sweet smile, warm hugs and the "I love you's" will be greatly missed. "We love you Mom, Grandma." The family wishes to extend our thanks to Dr. Fong, nurses, activity workers, and all the staff at Tatagwa View for their kind care of Mom. Visitation was held Sunday, April 21 at Fletcher Funeral Chapel. A funeral service was held Monday, April 22 at 11:00 AM from Zion Lutheran Church, Weyburn with Marjorie MCLeod CLA officiating. Interment followed at Green Acres Memorial Gardens. For family and friends so wishing, donations in memory of Edna may be made to the Recreation/Activities Dept. at Tatagwa View, Sun Country Health Region, Box 2003, Weyburn, SK S4H2Z9.
Message From Heaven
I still hear the songs, I still see the lights,
I still feel your love on cold winter nights,
I still share your hopes and all of your cares,
I'll even remind you to please say your prayers,
I just want to tell you, you still make me proud,
You stand head and shoulders above the crowd.
Keep trying each moment to stay in his grace,
I came here before you to help set your place,
You don't have to be perfect all of the time,
He forgives you the slip if you continue to climb,
To my family and friends, please be thankful today,
I'm still close beside you in a new special way.
I love you all dearly, now don't shed a tear,
Cause Kids, I'm spending my time with Dad and Jesus this year.
Condolences may be left at: www.fletcherfuneralchapel.com. Arrangements entrusted to Fletcher Funeral Chapels, Weyburn, 306-842-5432.
