Dorothy Marguerite Knight (nee LAING), a long-time resident of Ottawa, ON recently residing at Lakeshore Place Retirement Residence in Burlington, ON passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on October 8, 2012 at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. Dorothy enjoyed a long and happy life with loving friends and family. Born February 6, 1926 in Weyburn, daughter of Linda and Thomas George Sr. Laing, and loving sister to Tom, Ken and Grace (all predeceased), she enjoyed a vibrant life with a strong positive outlook. She will be remembered as having a big smile, an easy laugh and a steadfast independence that was an inspiration to many. Predeceased by her husband Gerald Howard Knight, their life was happily engaged in wonderful experiences in the Royal Canadian Air Force based in locations across Canada. Her love of family and friends, golf, curling, swimming, cards, dance, travel and beaches were her lifelong passions. She gave so much and asked for so little. Dearly missed by loving sons Garth Gerald, Kenneth Drew, daughter-in-law Alison Mary, grandson Dana Gerald-James, grand-daughter Aynsley Mary-Marguerite and sister-in-law Patricia Knight. She is the last senior member of the Laing family, leaving dear nephews and niece Jim, Brian, David and Linda Laing and Dillon and Darcy Brady. A reception to celebrate her life will take place Sunday, October 28, at the Paletta Lakefront Park and Mansion in Burlington from 1:30 to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Foundation for Caregiving in Canada, or the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
