Dorothy Mae Wieb

Dorothy was born on December 23, 1927, the daughter of Walter and Ethel Stebbings (nee Stewart). When Dorothy was three years old, her parents moved from St. Vital, MB to West Winnipeg. Dorothy attended Principal Sparling school and Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. By her own admission, she did not enjoy school and in high school she chose the Commercial stream doing very well in those subjects (with the exception of spelling). She left school to seek employment and from day one, she was employed in a variety of clerical positions. Dot, as she was known to her many friends, was raised in a Christian home. Her parents were members of the Sherbrooke St. Church of Christ. The church had a very active youth group and it was through that group that Dorothy met and later married Dan Wieb. They were married on July 19, 1947. Two girls were born to them, Lynda in 1949 and Karen in 1952. In 1952, the family moved to Abilene, Texas in order for Dan to go to college. They returned to Winnipeg in 1955 to take a position with the Sherbrooke St. Church. In 1959, Kent was born and in 1960 the family moved to Weyburn to be part of the staff at Western Christian College. Tommy, who was adopted in 1959, succumbed to cancer in 1964. Allan was adopted shortly thereafter and the family was complete. Dan and Dorothy remained with Western Christian until 1988 and then worked with the Weyburn Church of Christ until they retired in 1991. Following several years travelling between south Texas and Weyburn, Dan and Dorothy moved to Dauphin, MB in 2008. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents and her son, Thomas Walter. She is survived by Dan, her husband of almost 67 years; two daughters, Lynda (Warren) King of Weslaco, Texas, and Karen (Dennis) Quilliams of Red Deer, AB; two sons Allan (Bonnie) of Bengough and Kent (Paula) of Dauphin, MB. The Wieb family expanded throughout the years giving Dorothy ten grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. A memorial service was conducted at the Church of Christ building in Weyburn on June 9. Interment followed at Green Acres Cemetery in Weyburn.
