It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our Mother and Wife, Dorothy Elizabeth Thompson, late of Ceylon who passed away peacefully at the Radville Marian Health Centre on March 23, 2013, at the age of 84 years. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Dorothy and Archie McLean; her daughter, Marilyn Vennard, sisters: Sylvia Sadlemyer (George), Jean Hutchinson (Lloyd), Margie Lawrence (Bob) and Betty McLean; three brothers: Gus, John and Donnie McLean; brother-in-law, Ivor Williams; her mother and father-in-law, Charles and Laura Thompson. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Allen Thompson, Ceylon; daughter, Betty (Floyd) Blixrud, Fort QuAppelle; sons: Blaine Thompson, Ceylon, Warren Thompson (Laureen), Ceylon; grandchildren: Renee Blixrud (Ed), Christopher Blixrud, Jason Vennard, Holly Harrenett (Mike) Stephen Vennard (Tanya); six great grandchildren; sister, Marion Williams, Mossbank; brother, Bill (Leanne) McLean, Regina; brother-in-law, Ken (Jeanne) Thompson, Valleyview, AB as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Dorothy was born to Archie and Dorothy McLean on August 1, 1928 in the Rodgers district near Courval. She took her schooling in the country school in the district. As a young girl she enjoyed skating, ball and numerous sports. As a young woman she worked in the Mossbank Hospital as a cooks helper and helped where needed. She married Allen Thompson on January 23, 1952 in Moose Jaw. They moved to various places in the province as Allen had a gravel truck and hauled gravel. They started their family in 1953 with daughter Marilyn in 1954, Betty in 1958, Blaine and Warren in 1965. They moved to Ceylon to farm in 1956. Dorothy was very busy raising her family and helping Allen when needed. She enjoyed gardening flowers and just being outside. She was a wonderful cook and liked to bake and always had goodies for family and visitors. She enjoyed visits from family members, sisters, brothers and always liked to keep in touch with them. She enjoyed her grandchildren and liked to play games when they visited and always had something special for each one. She was a very generous person and was always there to try to help anyone she could. She worked in the Ceylon United Church and liked to help whenever needed and always enjoyed the people she worked with (great friends). She will always be loved and remembered and sadly missed by her family and many friends. A funeral service for Dorothy was held on Monday, April 1 at 1:00 p.m. from Ceylon United Church, Ceylon with Rev. Diane Robinson, officiating . Interment followed at Ceylon Community Cemetery, Ceylon. Active Pallbearers were Larry Lillejord, Ken Catherwood, Blaine McCutcheon, Melvin Gust, Brent Blackmore and Brad Nyhus. For family and friends so wishing, donations in memory of Dorothy may be made to the Radville & District Health Centre Foundation, Box 310, Radville, SK S0C 2G0. Arrangements were entrusted to RD Family Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, Weyburn (306-848-0333 ~ 1-888-848-0333).
