Doris Irene Atter, late of Weyburn, passed away November 26, 2013, at the age of 100 years. On November 26, our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, aunt and friend left this world for a better place. She passed away at the Weyburn Special Care Home where she resided for the last few years. Her daughter was with her at her passing. Doris was predeceased by her husband Cecil in 1963. Three sons: Larry, Duane and Clarence, her parents Clarence and Lucy Towne, six siblings, brother-in-law Ernie Atter as well as several in-laws in England. She is survived by her children Elaine Parker, David (Lois) Atter, Shirley (Philip) Sparks, daughters-in-law Lois (David) Angell and Catherine Atter. She also leaves to mourn her loss and cherish her memory, 13 grandchildren, 24 great granchildren and five great great grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews and friends. Doris was a survivor, as after Cecil passed on in 1963 she was a janitor at Halbrite School and then went to work at the Midale Hospital as a nurse's aide. She had a kind and loving heart as witnessed when her nephew went to live with her to finish high school. She was a busy and social person, always up to a game of cards or having tea and cookies with friends. She belonged to many organizations. Her hands were always busy, she crocheted afghans for grandchildren and lap robes, knit sweaters, toques, mittens and slippers. Her needlepoint pictures are a treasure. She had many hobbies over the years which included golfing, bowling (she went to the Canadian finals), dancing, she loved playing cards and bingo. She travelled with her son to England and Scotland to visit relatives. She also visited Hawaii, Alaska, and she also made many trips to the USA and across Canada. She went camping and travelled with her family every chance she had, whenever the car went, she was in it. Doris' last few years were difficult as she gradually became more dependent on the nursing staff to care for her. She was happy at the Special Care Home and praised the staff for the wonderful care she received. They could bring a smile to her face always. She will be missed by everyone. A funeral service for Doris was held on Monday, December 2 at 11:00 a.m. from the Grace United Church, Weyburn with Rev. M. Barnabas, officiating. Interment followed at Halbrite Cemetery.
