Doreen was born October 1, 1935 in Hamiota, MB to Norman and Bessie Dickie. When Doreen was about four they moved back to Creelman where Doreen spent the rest of her life. The family lived on several farms in the area before moving into Creelman to run the cafe. Doreen got her education at Sequin, Hartaven and Creelman schools. In 1951 Willie and Doreen were married and started raising their family, which grew to six children. Their first child, Elizabeth only lived a few hours, then came Allan, Lorna, Barrie (who died of meningitis at three weeks old), Louanne, Sharon, Dale and chosen son Greg. The family also included foster children for a few years. Married life started out on the Carnegie farm seven miles north of Creelman and in the spring of 1964 the family moved to the "big" house where Doreen spent the next 50 years. Doreen had many interests/loves, first and foremost was the family, extended family and friends. A close second was the community of Creelman where she spent her life serving with many groups, on many boards and committees up until the time of her death; some of which include: Crieff School Board, Fillmore Lions Band Committee, Rink Board, Agriculture Society, United Church Board, Parks and Recreation Board, coaching girls softball, Creelman cemetery, United Church Women, 4-H Leader, Fillmore Legion Ladies Auxillary, Creelman History Book Committee, Theatrical Club, SK Winter Games, Home Care, Hall Board, Jug Band, Home and School. In 2002 Doreen very proudly accepted the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal for Community Service. Doreen was a very giving, loving person with a big heart; she was always willing to help out and always put others before herself. She was not afraid of hard work and was truly a domestic engineer. She could whip up a meal for 10 extra people at a moments notice and she was happiest when her house was full of people. Willie and Doreen's mutual love of music and dancing brought them many hours of enjoyment and instigated many house parties. We know that she and Dad are now in each others arms, dancing once again. A service of remembrance for Doreen was held on Monday, June 23 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Andrew's United Church, Creelman with Rev. Ann White, officiating. Interment followed at Golden Gates Cemetery, Creelman. Honorary pallbearers were all in attendance. For family and friends so wishing, donations in memory of Doreen may be made to St. Andrew's United Church Creelman, Golden Gates Cemetery Creelman, Saskatchewan Down Syndrome Society, STARS Ambulance, Fillmore Volunteer Ambulance. Arrangements were entrusted to RD Family Funeral Chapel and Crematorium, Weyburn (848-0333 ~ 1-888-848-0333).
