“I’ve lived, I’ve loved, I’ve died”. Mom was tired of reading obituaries noting someone’s courageous battle with death instead of a little humour. So let’s see what we can do. Carole Linda was born May 29, 1944, the middle child to Alex and Verna Neff. She would often say in jest to bug her siblings Marion and Gerald that she was the forgotten child, not the eldest and not the favourite baby of the family. Mom grew up in Eyebrow, and received a diploma from Marvel Hair Design after graduating high school. She moved to Weyburn to work in a salon for Aunty Flo. She met and married Lawrence Yeik and opened her own salon with a friend. She had two amazing children Cory and Stacey (aka Muffin). After Cory was born she had her own salon out of their house on south hill. Once Muffin was born, mom starting working at Souris Valley Mental Health Hospital in 1978 as a special care aid and ended her career at Tatagwa View in 2011. But of course she couldn’t just retire, she went on to be a correlator for the last five years at the Weyburn Review. Now people would always ask “what is a correlator?” and mom would tell them to look it up. Mom made many friends at her jobs. From the long term friends she met and worked with at Souris Valley – Yvonne, Anita, Beryl, Sharon and Jeff, just to name a few. Mom spent many years caring for a great number of people and in between her regular shifts she could often be seen at the curling rink, bowling alley or the golf course, serving up food or drinks with a little smart ass comment as a side dish. So many funny stories came home with her from her many jobs (this is the part where those of you will remember one of those stories or smart ass comments and smile). Mom was an avid bowler and even coached the men’s team to nationals in Newfoundland. She enjoyed travelling in the later years with Muffin and her friends, we have many memories of Mexico, Dominican and the US. She loved her yard, her flowers, crafting, strong coffee, a good cigarette, chocolate, Crown Royal, big laughs, and of course her grandchildren Mathew, Lola and Jake. Mom was a tough, hard working woman who told it like it was. There isn’t enough room or words to describe what this woman meant to us and she would probably be kicking my ass for even trying! Mom wanted you to know she spent 6 plus decades doing pretty much as she wanted to do, being a little stubborn and following doctor’s orders only if she agreed with them. Mom has also left a list for her children to follow and nothing less will be accepted! For those of us that used it, there will be one less coffee and candy stop in Weyburn, where we could always get a cup of coffee, some delicious fudge, a hug, a laugh…and yes sometimes a stiff drink (but not during a curling match or Rider game!)  Oh no, you didn’t interrupt that, instead you sat in silence and watched or stopped by afterwards to discuss the game). She will be missed by many, her children, Cory (Kim), Muffin (Jesse), her grandchildren Mathew, Lola and Jake, nephews and nieces Greg, Graham (Anika), Ryan, Shane (Lynn), Glenys (Mark), Lana (Scott). We would like to give a special thanks to Auntie Doreen, Dr. Haidash, Norm and Evelyn and the staff at the 5th Street Special Care Home for all they did for Carole. LOVE YOU MORE.
