Cal was born in Weyburn on January 10, 1929 to Leo and Frances Roberts. He lived on the farm in the Ceylon area with his parents, three brothers (Bobby, Harry and Doug) and three sisters (Mary, Margaret and Wyn). Following school, he farmed in the summers, and then worked in Vancouver, BC, Calgary, AB and Melita, MB in the winter months. In 1949 to 1951 he attended the Full Gospel Bible Institute in Eston where he met Viola Kary whom he later married on October 24, 1952. Cal and Vi lived and farmed in the Ceylon and Khedive area where they raised three children: Dennis, Lynne and Barbara. Cal and Vi moved to Pangman in 1978 and continued to farm with Dennis until 1999. Cal and Vi wintered with many friends in Weslaco, TX from 1987 until 1998. In 2003 Cal and Vi moved to Vi's hometown Veteran, AB. Public life was important to Cal, he served as Councillor and Reeve in the Rural Municipality of Brokenshell. He was one of the founders of the Weyburn Inland Terminal. Cal served on the board of Pangman Bethel Mission and Trossachs Gospel Camp, he was actively involved in the Weyburn Chapter of Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship. Cal also served on the Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Board for six years. While living in Veteran he worked at the Big Sky Waste Management. Farming was Cal's life and he took much pride and pleasure in his grain farming and livestock. Cal's definition of the good life was a Chevy pickup truck, a good quarter horse, a German Shepherd dog, a collection of guns and having coffee with friends. His greatest pride and joy was his family and he was especially proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Cal was predeceased by his parents Leo and Frances Roberts; his stepfather Harold Looysen; brothers Bobby and Doug Roberts; his sister Mary Patzer; his daughter Barbara Parken. He leaves to mourn his wife of 59 years Viola; his son Dennis (Shelly) and their daughter Megen Thurber (Nathan); a daughter Lynne Roberts; a son-in-law Darold Parken and children Alexander, Katherine and Conrad; his siblings, Harry Roberts (Joyce), Margaret Demarzo (Vito) and Wyn Clews (Wayne); sister-in-law Donna Olson and brother-in-law Art Patzer; as well as all his in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. Cal will be greatly missed, but more importantly he will be fondly remembered. Funeral services were held at the Veteran Full Gospel Church, Veteran, Alberta on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. with Harry Roberts & Dennis Roberts officiating. Cal's family shared many memories paying tribute to his life, tributes were given by Dennis Roberts and Megen Thurber. Judy Heistad played for the congregational hymn "What A Day That Will Be" which was led by Chricinda Devereux. David and Rowena Sheppard sang "Great Is Thy Faithfulness". Active pallbearers were Randy Kary, Stan Allison, Kevin Clews, Garnet Clews, Alexander Parken and Conrad Parken with the interment at the Veteran Cemetery. Following the funeral service family and friends gathered at the Veteran Hall for a time of visiting and reminiscing. A beautiful lunch was prepared and served by the Veteran Full Gospel Church Ladies.
