Albin Junior Carlberg, born April 6, 1923, passed away at Weyburn on the 26th of December, 2012 at the age of 89 years. Albin was born to Albin and Lillian Carlberg in Fillmore, and raised on the family farm in the same area. He began his formal education in Fillmore but moved to Palmerston, Ontario to take his Grade 13. Following the time spent in Ontario, he returned to Fillmore and began farming with his Dad. Albin married Mary Mitchell on February 1, 1947 in Fillmore and they began their lives together. As well as farming, he drove school bus in the area and mowed ditches for the Rural Municipality. Albin was active in the Fillmore School Division, the local church board as a superintendent for Sunday School and a life time member of the Masonic Lodge. Albin and Mary loved to dance and did so for many years. He was also the D.J. for many local dances. In his free time Albin enjoyed collecting stamps and unique coins and restoring old John Deere tractors, which he proudly drove in many local parades. Albin eagerly looked forward to and enjoyed all family gatherings. He will be lovingly remembered and missed by many. Albin was predeceased by his parents, Albin and Lillian Carlberg; two sisters, Elaine Hofmeister (Vernon) and Shirley Mae Luchenski and a great granddaughter, Shyla Moore. Albin will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years, May of Weyburn; children, Rick (Diane) of Estevan, and their family, Jason (Chantelle) and Daniyale (Steven); Bev (Murray) Moore and their family Darcy (Kimberley) and Kimberly (Rick); Barry (Joyce) of North Portal, and their family Alicia (Darren) and Jaret (Lisa) and Lora Lee (Jim) Clark of Alameda, and their family Jamie, Shaun and Shane; 12 great grandchildren; brother, Howard "Ole" (Shirley) of Fillmore, as well as many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service was held on Monday, December 31, 2012 at 2:00 PM from Fletcher Funeral Chapels, Weyburn with Reverend M. Barnabas officiating. All in attendance were considered Honourary Pallbearers. Interment will be in the Fillmore Cemetery, Fillmore at a later date. Donations in memory of Albin may be made to the Fillmore United Church.
