Sympathy to the family and friends of the late Merle Coleman, who passed away on June 5 at the Virden Health Centre in Manitoba. She was 93 years old and the daughter of the late Matt and Elizabeth Hamilton. She was predeceased by her husband Ron and is survived by her daughter, Dreda Braybrook and her family. Interment was in the Virden columbarium.聽

Happy birthday聽to Elgin Pryce who celebrated his 88th birthday on June 19.聽

Edmonton CTV News recent aired a news item about 16-year-old Harding Garratt from Spruce Grove. Harding is the son of Owen (a former Wawota resident) and Karla Garratt. Harding started a business, The Dye Ice Cream Guy.聽

With a loan from his parents, he purchased a Dickie Dee's Ice Cream vehicle and sells frozen treats. He travels twice a week and posts his route on social media. What a great story of an ambitious young entrepreneur.聽

I recently spent four days at the Langbank Post Office. I always enjoy my time there as the residents are so very friendly.聽

We received some sad news recently. Kurtis Buhr passed away in a Regina hospital on June 7. He was 56 years old and was the father of two of our grandchildren, Emma and Morgan. A funeral was held at the Holy Rosary Cathedral in Regina on June 12.聽

Sympathy to all of the family and friends of Daniel Nyeste of Winnipeg. He passed away on June 11 at the age of 35 years old. He was the son of Linda (Oliver/Nyeste) Satterthwaite and a brother to Matthew and Joey.聽

Congratulations聽to all of the Parkland High School 2021 graduates. They had a private grad outside under a tent. They also paraded around the town. This is a diverse group and they have many different plans for their futures. Bailey Delbridge plans to take early childhood education, Matthew Fahlman will attend Assiniboine Community College in Brandon, Man., to take a course for communications engineering technology, Julia Houff plans to attend Medicine Hat College for business, William Husband will attend the University of Victoria to study chemistry (with a full academic scholarship), Madison Mansfield plans on attending Dalhousie University in Halifax for a health science degree, Beth McCarthy will travel to Spain where she will live, work and travel with plans to pursue a career in engineering or medicine, Riley Niven will pursue his hockey career which includes a four-year university scholarship, Ethan Pryce will work for a year before furthering his education, Cade Rutten plans to apprentice as an agricultural technician and Theoren West will work for a year before pursuing a career in the golf industry. 聽

A funeral service was held at the Wawota United Church on Jume 19th for the late Annie Easton. She passed away on April 14 at the age of 95 years.聽

The Wawota Public Library Book Club recently read, House Girl by Tara Conklin. The story opens when a 17-year-old, Josephine Bell, a slave on a tobacco farm and a nurse to her ailing mistress, decides to escape. It moves to 2014 where Lina Sparrow, an aspiring young lawyer is asked to find a "perfect plaintiff' for a historic class action worth trillions of dollars for the descendants of American slaves. 聽

Good news from Premier Scott Moe, as of July 11 all public health orders, mask mandates and restrictions on the size of gatherings will be cancelled.聽
