Wawota News - Saluting Brooks Laich

Born to Justin and Amy Lamontagne, twin sons on June 25. They have been named Everett Michael Ryan (weighing four pounds and nine ounces) and Beau Robert Bruce (five pounds, six ounces).

Grandparents are Bob and Kim Lamontagne and Bruce and Bonnie Easton of Moosomin. Great-grandparents are David and Shirley Brimner and Maurice and Arlene Lamontagne.

When our twin granddaughters were born eight years ago, I said that a family didn't need twins but it really made things more interesting.

A funeral service was held at the Wawota United Church and a committal were held on June 28 for Eunice Rogers. She passed away in April 2020 at the age of 93 years. Many family members attended this event.

Justin Olson and Tamara Buckingham and Callie stopped for a brief visit with the Keith Olsons last weekend before a camping weekend at Kenosee Lake.

Congratulations to 18-year-old Theoren West, who won the Maple Leaf Junior Tour golf tournament in Estevan last weekend. He shot a 74 and a 71 to gain the first place finish. Theoren West is the son of Rob and Kyla West.

Brooks Laich, a former resident of Wawota, has announced his retirement from the NHL. Although he hasn't played for the past three years and most recently was with the Los Angeles Kings, he spent 13 successful years with the Washington Capitals. He was signed in February 2001 with the Ottawa Senators and traded to the Washington Capitals in 2004. Wawota enjoyed seeing the success of this hometown boy.
