Tracking my thanks is the latest component of my daily walk. In order to have this make more sense, I'll describe the oval where I and my trusty cane spend time together each morning.
Perched atop a plateau that overlooks the Pacific Ocean, this all weather 400 metre, rubber-asphalt running track has become a destination of choice for me; it's easy on the old bones and best of all, there are four distinct views to ponder as I complete those laps. (Well, maybe best of all is the fact that walking as well as running is an option.)
Back to those views: starting out, a turn of the head to the right affords a stunning vista of ocean and islands. A number of new houses line the street beside the track, among them the home of our mayor and his wife. Thank God for great leadership.
Approaching the southern arc in this oval, the view changes to a forested area. Plans for this property include logging and the construction of a school for incoming foreign students. Known internationally for its innovative programs, our school district is already actively engaged with China's Sino Bright schools in a plan to bring several hundred students from there to our community. Just think of the opportunities for all involved!
Down the other side of the oval and to the right are towering mountains. Each time I pass them the words of the Psalmist come to mind: "I will lift up my eyes unto the hills. From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord…."
Finally, looking straight ahead as I enter that final arc I see the Army, Navy and Air Cadets buildings. So many memories of the years our granddaughters attended; so much for which to be grateful.
"Oh give thanks to the Lord…" (Psalm 118)
