Oh Robert look at you now, look at all the mess you've gotten yourself into, arrogance got you in and surely arrogance will get you out. He's at it again folks, Robert or as we affectionately call him, Rob, is in the news again and this time, it seems as if it will stick. Two weeks ago the Toronto police chief revealed that investigators made a discovery after electronic devices were seized after several raids months ago. They have recently managed to restore a deleted video filecontaining images of the mayor he said were "consistent" with widely publicized reports. In May, twoToronto Star reporters wrote that they had viewed a video clip of Rob Ford inhaling from what appears to be a glass crack pipe. They however noted that they had no way to verify the authenticity of the video but now Toronto's 64th mayor seems to have hit bottom.
I'm very interested to see if he will be remain mayor, resign, or run again in October, this all plays out to be more interesting than one of those political conspiracy theory movies. He has however recently come out and apologized. For what exactly, I don't know, but it was extremely vague and in my opinion it's developing into an exciting and tactical game of chess. He's making a necessary move that will not only save him in the long run but rally more Torontonians to sympathize with him when he runs again. Hey I could be wrong but in this crazy world anything is possible, that's what I have come to learn. One thing for sure it's nothing short of brilliant but you can't fool me Robert, your arrogance and petulant behaviour has gone ignored and unpunished for far too long. On Newstalk 1010the Mayor hosts a weekly talk show and it was here that he gave what I see as an empty apology. But hey who am I to judge we've all made mistakes in our lives. I sure know I have. I for one did my high school girlfriend Diana real bad, I was cold, blunt and frankly, I had a don't-care attitude towards her feelings but hey that's immaturity. I was 15-years-old and really my communication skills weren't as adept as they are now. But back to the matter at hand - Rob's apology, what do you make of it?
"I support the police. I have never wavered on supporting these hardline, hard-working, frontline officers. They work day in and day out to keep our city safe and they are the best, the best, absolutely the best police force in the world. I'm the first one to admit, friends, I'm the first one to admit, I'm not perfect. I have made mistakes. I have made mistakes and all l can do right now is apologize for the mistakes. I sincerely, sincerely apologize to my family, to the citizens, the taxpayers of this great city and to my colleagues on Toronto city council. Unfortunately, unfortunately, I cannot change the past. I can just move forward and learn from the past, which I will assure you I am doing."
These are some of the words from the Mayor's apology, as I stated before, vague and not really saying anything. His apology continued and for me it showed his arrogance even though he was trying to show remorse.
"I love this city. I absolutely adore the people of this city and I love helping people when they call me and I go to their front door and help them. I want to move forward. But I also know to move forward I have to make changes in my life, which I can assure you that I will do. I love the work I do and I'm going to keep doing it.
"I want to keep working for the people of this city. And there is still, still a lot of work to be done and I want to continue doing the job that I was elected to do three years ago. And next Oct. 27th, let the people decide on who they want to run this city," he said.
I'm not sure if this column will even be relevant when the paper comes out but one thing for sure, when Ford end ups fully admitting Toronto has some serious decisions to make. I only hope the city makes the right one, as there are several reasons why one wants to lead, what's yours Rob's?
