The Wawota Save Our Beds committee would like to respond to issues raised in Mr. Jeff Laforet's letter to the editor in the World Spectator.
Sun Country Regional Health Authority is absolutely and ultimately responsible for the Wawota bed closures.
We would like to clarify that Wawota does not feel any resentment towards Stoughton residents or the New Hope Pioneer Lodge. We agree that all communities need to band together to ensure that Sun Country is not allowed to keep making uninformed decisions that have such a devastating effect on our seniors.
Any references made to Stoughton were to confirm the lack of justification by Sun Country Regional Health Authority not to discredit New Hope Pioneer Lodge. Expressions of other individuals are beyond our control and reflect only one person's feelings not our community as a whole.
We would like to acknowledge the level of care given in the New Hope Pioneer Lodge. This facility is not offered to our residents due to Stoughton exceeding the 100km distance. The fact that our residents have requested New Hope Pioneer Lodge indicates the reputable quality of care.
The community of Wawota appreciates the staff or New Hope Pioneer Lodge and the community of Stoughton for the kindness shown to our residents. You have truly made them feel welcome.
