Politics is a realm of our societal make up that is both needed and unwanted. The simplest of societies use politics to build the frame work on which their culture and civilization is built and governed. A necessary evil I guess but to be quite frank it's an ideology that man developed and as a result it will have flaws. The concept of politics itself is defective so much so that regimes have killed millions through its power. For some it's a system that is perfectly fine and it is the minds behind the man that needs to get it straight. It's certainly both, but we are only limited by our desire for perfection. And quite frankly perfection differs from each mind, society and country. The human race is a profound collection, at times I marvel at our incredible strength, weakness, bigotry and zeal for power.
Our creation be it from the primordial soup or by the hands of a great celestial being, isn't monolithic. We were crafted to evolve, to grow into something that can make a treasury for the generations to come. Please forgive me if my words come across as preachy or I seem to be garrulous on paper. But thoughts and options are meant to be shared and I am much obliged for the opportunity. The faith in man can be our greatest strength or biggest downfall. Rob Ford has taken precedence in the Canadian news of late and his exploits have been plastered across international papers. And rightly so, he has let us down, he has driven the faith we had in him away. Personally my admiration of Mayor Ford isn't all that high, his arrogance and blatant disregard for respect boggles my mind. And I won't put it down to, "oh, that just who he is," but that's just me. However in the coming months politics will be at work. It will be churned and operated to its fullest potential. Example, Doug Ford saying Toronto's police chief Bill Blair should step down because he' bias towards his brother.
"He believes he's the judge, jury, and executioner - he wanted to go out and put a political bullet right between the mayor's eyes,"were his words several days ago on John Oakley's AM640 in Toronto.
I do however have to give credit when credits due. The support Ford gets goes beyond race, religion or class. He had set objectives that were common amongst Torontonians. And one of my favorite authors and leaders, Michael Manley said it best in his book "The Politics of Change," "all societies depend on a power system." He went on further saying "politics is the business of power." Winston Churchill himself alluded to the same thing when said, "Politics is not a game. It is an earnest business." These words have so much strength but the question is why. As Manley said, there are men who seek power for its own sake and this is very common. Hey, we all want to be rich. But it is rare that we have idealists in today's world and the ones we have commonly turn out to be Kin Jung-un. I might be straying here but back to the matter at hand. Rob Ford is a man I believe, who understands the "Tdot," but his character flaws relinquish that understanding.
When he was elected his message was; keep taxes down, cut waste and of get rid of the gravy train. This resonated with voters and still does. To me this speaks volumes and brings to the fore his impact to Torontonians, no matter his attitude. But my thing is, does the act of smoking crack define your character, was it a one off or is this just a skeleton that was hidden deep in his closet and is just maybe the beginning. Don't forget it is said he used some racial slurs in the video, but that's for another day. I'm interested to see if politics will reign. I predict he will remain in office and years from now something bigger will take place to trample his crack pipe. His passion was what won voters but that passion has morphed over the years into something distasteful. Let's see what plays out growth, or politics.
