More or Less: What I did on my summer vacation

My quaint cabin was at Clearview Christian Camp, the very same camp I attended 50 years ago as a child, and 40 years ago as a counsellor.

WEYBURN - Last week, I took a much anticipated vacation - one I had been planning for several months.

I packed up my car and left my children and pets behind. They had ample food and emergency contacts if anything went awry while I was gone.

After a scenic 90 minute drive (with no one to complain about my singing) I arrived at my destination.

A lakeside cabin with the most spectacular view would be my home for the next five days. Nestled among the trees, overlooking Kenosee Lake, my quaint abode was the perfect retreat.

Every meal was homemade by a seasoned cook, and a variety of snacks were available throughout the day. Elves flitted about doing chores, such as dishes and cleaning the toilets.

How could I afford such a luxurious vacation?

The cost was very little and I came home far richer than I could have imagined.

My quaint cabin was at Clearview Christian Camp, the very same camp I attended 50 years ago as a child, and 40 years ago as a counsellor.

Now, after several decades, I returned to the camp of my youth to help with Junior Week, primarily with crafts.

The ‘elves’ on dish duty and commode cleaning were our campers - 47 of the best kids ever. In all, there were close to 60 of us there for the week, including counsellors, leaders and staff.

In addition to Bible lessons and memory work, the week included swimming, canoeing, a hay ride, games, crafts and theme meals.

Our days were full from the wake up bell at 7 a.m. to campfire and snack before bed.

It wasn’t the most relaxing vacation I could have had, but my heart is full to bursting with the joy it brought me.

I’ve already signed up for next year! Who’s coming with me?
