Maryfield Sunshine Villa a source of memories

Doris Erickson, who leads our weekly sitting exercises, worked at the villa when it was first built. She and Pat Adair were the support staff who welcomed Joy Erickson and Alma Smith.

Doris Erickson, who leads our weekly sitting exercises, worked at the villa when it was first built. She and Pat Adair were the support staff who welcomed Joy Erickson and Alma Smith. Other first residents she remembers included Gertrude Dunn, Winnie Baker, Edith McCormick, Scotty Ballingall and Jake Osterbeck.

The board members of the Villa planted a linden tree in the courtyard. They were Sybae McGarva, Mac Donavon, Danny Frazer and others. By then the construction site had been cleared, probably in the spring of 1990, when the signboard was planned. The linden tree now shades half the courtyard.

Ten years later, when Ferne Hutton and Jean Walker lived here, they proudly showed off the newly bricked walk, which now surrounds the center flowerbed, and provides quick access for the staff in emergencies.

The daily visitor lists are being filed for future reference in case of COVID tracing. Only the list for Aug. 2 was available. Larry Matheson visited Irene Husband. Richard Ketcheson and Lynne Jacobson visited our latest guest, Betty Walker. R. Swanton visited Marg.

Philip Mark brought delphinium and roses from the farm. Janet’s brother, Clinton Houston and his daughter Cathy, called last week and took Janet to the farm for supper.
