Is it possible to have a world without war or just an unrealistic dream?

The world is by no means perfect but for one reason or the other there are continuing signs that the human race can't seem to resolve conflicts.

The world is by no means perfect but for one reason or the other there are continuing signs that the human race can't seem to resolve conflicts.

Is it that the nature of man is so crude and unjust that some way somehow, selfishness, greed and envy fuels his passion for war. While on the other side of things are our hands forced into battle at the sight of the weak being abused? Either way history has proven that war is inevitable and our approach to it remains the same but its purpose frequently changes.

Today war is stimulated by countries that own weapons of mass destruction while in the past it was about countries owning the crown. I once heard a standup comedian say people have gotten less crazy these days and that's the reason why a lot of things in society are now accepted. In most ways I believe this is applicable to war but at the same time I am puzzled and wonder if things have really changed.

Throughout history wars have primarily been for power or had a religious factor that fueled mans rage. A prime example of this would be the French Wars of Religion where the Catholics and Protestants in France battled between 1562 and 1598 for simply a belief system. While in Islam Jihad is a word that sends fear into the hearts of many in North Americas, many of which don't even know the history behind the group. Just to note it translates to "to struggle in the way of Allah" and has non-violent connotation, go figure.

My reason for highlighting these various events and the topic of war is because of the latest happenings in Syria. I am deeply sadden by all the violence and I sure many of you feel just same when I say I've lost track of who did what and who's wrong from who's right. It's become a case of he said she said and I can't confidently tell you the reasons behind what's happening but what I can say is that innocent people are dying as a result. Sadly this is always the case.

Israeli officials say the recent airstrikes in Syria was to prevent the country's advanced weaponry from being transferred to Hezbollah. Man is capable of great good and great evil and it a reality we have to accept, it leaves many questions in my mind unanswered but my approach to life is one of harmony.

Sometimes I question the debate of nature versus nurture because I can remember when I was about five years old and seeing other kids fighting and being baffled at why they couldn't resolve their differences another way. Yes believe me people at five years old I was thinking that, maybe I couldn't articulate my thoughts at the time then but I was thinking it none the less.

If we as a people, a world would approach disputes and differences in an amicable manner that sees us truly wanting the best for our fellow human being then the world would be a much friendlier place. But hey who am I kidding there are numerous factors that affect us which trickles its way into the way we, lead, love and relate. Sad yes, but true and I don't know when there will ever be a time when we are without war and conflict, it's even absurd of me thinking that it's even possible but I can dream cant I. Hopefully people will get less crazy but the complexity of our minds and the passion of hearts always somehow end up in a cause for violence. There is so much more we can build with our minds and hands than just bombs and guns. There is so much more feeling we can explore than hatred and fear. My only hope is that as time progresses we advance as people in relation to war and conflict.
