ASSINIBOIA - When we think of summer, we think of a time to relax, a time to get out and explore and visit family and friends. We are proud of our tourism attractions and related businesses in Assiniboia. We encourage you to explore the community this summer.
Did you know that the Assiniboia Museum has a unique antique car collection? The Assiniboia and District Historical Society is an active volunteer organization that has a passion for the museum.
The museum also houses the Prentice African Safari Exhibit, several vintage cars dating back to 1916, a military display and photo archive collection of the area, with a Pole Shed and Quonset in the yard with agricultural machinery and more antique cars among the many more interesting things to see. Stop by and see them at the Museum as the Visitor Information Centre is also located inside at 506 Third Avenue West.
Next stop…. at the Shurniak Art Gallery houses founder Bill Shurniak’s private collection of original paintings, sculptures, and artifacts from around the world. The 8,000 square foot gallery has a welcoming warm and hospitable atmosphere.
An extensive international collection reflects Mr. Shurniak’s amazing lifetime travel, and his lengthy work postings overseas in Hong Kong and Australia. Canadian and local Saskatchewan pieces are exceptional. The gallery also showcases work by invited visiting artists. Come, enjoy and stop in and say hello to them at 122 Third Avenue West.
The Prince of Wales Cultural and Recreation Centre is home to the Public Library and the Olympia Movie Theatre. Movies play Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 7 pm.
Also when we think of summer fun it also includes our Outdoor Pool and Spray Park located beside the Regional Park campground. The Pool has a lot going on – public swims, lane swim, Aquafit, midnight swims…schedule all online on the Town’s website. Also planned are the Better Together Tuesday BBQ’s from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the pool parking lot.
