The Editor,
I would like to correct the letter to the editor on June 30, 2010 that stated MLA Doreen Eagles sits at the cabinet table. This is not true. Doreen Eagles may chair the caucus meetings, but she has not been and is not a cabinet minister. As such, she does not participate in cabinet meetings.
It is truly unfortunate that Brad Wall takes Estevan and the voters of Estevan for granted with no cabinet representation. The Energy City's businesses and the workers are in fact providing Wall and his fiscally mismanaging government huge revenues, yet he overlooks the region.
It is unfortunate and a disappointment as a citizen of Estevan to have no voice and no representation at cabinet to push and raise issues that matter to us, such as, health care needs, doctor shortage, skyrocketing cost of living, mounting debt and deficit, providing dignity to our health care workers, advocating our clean coal project, protecting and enhancing SaskPower, stopping the attack on working people and unions, and infrastructure throughout the southeast, to name but a few.
It is a good thing that the New Democrats, under the leadership of Dwain Lingenfelter, are building relationships, understanding the needs and standing up for of all of the province, and specifically Estevan. It is important that Dwain Lingenfelter, Trent Wotherspoon and the NDP caucus continue their frequent visits and meetings in Estevan, and throughout the southeast, as they are often the only voice in our provincial legislature raising the real issues and opportunities that matter to Estevan and area.
In 2011 hopefully Estevan will elect an MLA, a premier, and a party that doesn't take them for granted.
