Awhile ago on Netflix I came across a quirky show called “No Tomorrow.” It’s a single season, with 13 episodes. The series ran from Oct. 4, 2016, Jan. 17, 2017.
I call it quirky because it was a comedy, which somehow focused on the coming of end of the world. It was based on the Brazilian series “How to Enjoy the End of the World.” The basic premise surrounds a woman who falls for a free-spirited man who believes the world will end in eight months. His mission: to live life to its fullest because there’s an eight month timeline to all of humanity.
The woman, although unsure about the end of the world, is inspired to make an “apocalyst:” everything you want to do before the world ends. It’s interesting because although there’s a timeline for the characters in the show, it’s a fun idea to come up with a list of all the things you want to do before you can no longer do them and follow through.
I made up a list and one of them included flying a plane, so last year I went up for a flying lesson in Estevan. It was phenomenal! Such a cool experience. But, whether its places to visit or activities you’d like to do or something you’d like to accomplish. It’s a fun way to look at what you want to do and where you want your life to head, while crossing off completed items is always satisfying too.
Thinking about the end of the world in the show, I looked up a list of predicted dates for apocalyptic events… the first one I could find was back in 66-70 Common Era (what used to be known as Anno Domini - AD) and there’s been hundreds from around the world ever since.
The two biggest ones in my lifetime were the Y2K scare of 1999 to 2000 and in 2012 with Nostradamus’s prophecies being applied. In fact there have been 53 apocalypse claims throughout my life with more on their way…
Although the next predicted one that I could find isn’t until 2020, so I guess we don’t have to worry about something alarming like the Apocalypse for awhile it looks like.
I’m not a doomsdayer, but everybody’s time on Earth is limited. Life is about experiences, so why not attempt to gain as many experiences as you want with your time here. A popular saying over the past few years has been “YOLO,” meaning You Only Live Once, but I saw someone say that is a false statement the other day. You live every day, but you only die once – so the classic saying of carpe diem “seize the day” is more applicable.
Live your life every day. Be good to people and garner unique experiences, but make sure you take the time to do the things that make you happy in life.
