To all First Nations, Inuit and Métis people – I have stood silently too long.
I apologize for the wrongs and horribly unfair treatment you have received from the governments, churches and the general population. I am so very sorry for the cruel treatment of your children at residential schools.
I am so very sorry for the deaths of your children. My heart aches for you that your children never came home and you don’t know what happened to them or where they are. I grieve for you and with you.ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý
As a member of the United Church of Canada, I am sorry for our role in following government policies and running residential schools. I am sorry that we didn’t defend you and say this is wrong. We are all the Creator’s children, we all deserve to be treated fairly and equally. Ìý
I have and will continue to read your books. I will listen to your stories. I will read the Truth and Reconciliation report. I will speak out for you. I pray for harmony for all.
