Prices up at Mankota mid-summer cattle sales

The Mankota Stockmen’s Weigh Co. held an all class sale on July 21. There were 757 head sold. Up for sale were three weight categories of bulls, seven weight categories of steers, one of stags, one weight category of heiferettes, four weight categories of heifers and one weight category of cows.
Bulls weighing under 1,000 lbs. sold in a range of $70 to $194 per cwt for an average of $147.54 per cwt. The price range is up substantially between $60 to $27 per cwt from the June sale. Bulls in the weight category of 1,000 to 2,000 lbs. sold between $85 and $131 per cwt for an average $118.09 per cwt, and those weighing over 2,001 lbs. were down from the June sale selling between $90 and $135 per cwt at an average of $117.78 per cwt. Stags of all weights sold at $133 per cwt.
Steers in the weight category of 401 to 500 lbs. dropped from the June sale by $54.50 per cwt to sell at $182.50 per cwt. Steers in the weight category of 501 to 600 lbs. climbed slightly selling in the range of $180 and $220.50 per cwt at an average $212.13 per cwt. Steers in the weight category of 601 to 700 lbs. sold in the range of $160 to $220.50 per cwt at an average of $212.48 per cwt. Steers weighing 701 to 800 lbs. held steady from the June sale selling between $182 to $216 per cwt at an average of $208.22 per cwt, while those weighing 801 to 900 lbs. sold at $193.75 per cwt. Steers weighing 901 to 1,000 lbs. gained from the June sale and sold between $167.50 to $176 per cwt. Those in the weight category above 1,000 lbs. increased by $39 per cwt from the June sale selling at $164 per cwt.
Heiferettes in all weight categories dipped slightly from the June sale to sell in a range of $87.50 to $160 per cwt at an average of $131.25 per cwt. Cows in all weight categories increased from the June sale to sell between $60 and $124.50 per cwt. Heifers weighing 501 to 600 lbs. between $10 to $26 per cwt from June to be sold in a range of $140 and $193 per cwt at an average $179.87 per cwt, and those in the weight category of 601 and 700 lbs. sold in a range of $183.25 and $189 per cwt to average $185.88 per cwt. Heifers weighing between 701 and 800 lbs. increased from the June sale selling in the range of $180 and $189 per cwt to average $186.23 per cwt, while those weighing 801 to 900 lbs. sold between $183.75  and 185.75 per cwt.
A sale of cow-calf pairs followed. There were 27 pairs in all weight categories sold between $1,000 and $2,000 to average $1,744.44.
The next sale is the first yearling sale on September 1. The Mankota Stockmen’s Weigh Company has announced its fall sale dates. An all class sale takes place on September 8. October has four sales: A yearling sale on October 6, an all class sale on October 13, the Canadian rancher-endorsed Black Angus calf sale on October 20 and a Red Angus, Hereford and Charolais calf sale on October 27. There will be three sales in November including Angus calf sales on November 3 and 10 and an all breeds calf sale on November 17. December has two sales with an all class sale on December 1 and an annual select bred heifer sale on December 8.
