The Weyburn and District Hospital Foundation will hold their annual golf tournament and dinner fundraiser on Tuesday, June 26, with dinner to be at the Cugnet Centre, followed by a concert by Brad Johner and the Johner Boys.

The eighth annual fundraiser event was announced on Wednesday by co-chairs Al York and Dale Renz, who noted the foundation has raised $1.3 million so far towards buying equipment for the new acute-care hospital for Weyburn.

The day will begin with breakfast and registration, and golf will begin at 10:30 a.m. with an 18-hole Texas scramble format. There will be food and refreshment holes, and two chances for $25,000 hole-in-one prizes as well as friendly skill competitions.

The Weyburn Young Fellows Club will serve up a roast beef supper at the Cugnet Centre, with live and silent auctions, and the concert with Brad Johner and the Johner Boys will be held afterward at 8 p.m.

This will be the first time for the Johners to play in Weyburn since they held a sold-out concert here in April of 2013.

鈥淲e鈥檙e fortunate to have them back,鈥 said York. 鈥淲e鈥檙e encouraging everyone to bring the whole family to this concert. The more people we can get there, the better, knowing you are supporting the Foundation in the goal of purchasing equipment for a new hospital.鈥

The concert will be open to the public, with tickets to be available separately for $30 each in advance or $40 at the door. Tickets for the Johner concert will go on sale soon at Pharmasave, York Jewellers, Music Craft and the Hospital Foundation office.

A limited number of tickets for the supper will also be available from Melanie Sorensen at the Hospital Foundation office. The emcee for the evening will be Derek Myers, the former sports director for Global TV.

Weyburn Security is again the title sponsor for the fundraiser tournament and supper, the seventh year they have provided this support, and Jim Onstad said the basic reason is they recognize the importance of a new hospital for Weyburn and area.

鈥淢odern health care facilities are very much needed to improve all aspects of health care in Weyburn. I have first-hand knowledge of the needs in the hospital, as my wife has worked in many departments for over 30 years. Even though the initial goals for a new building have been temporarily met, we know that the longer we wait for a start date, the higher the budget will rise,鈥 said Onstad.

鈥淲eyburn Security is proud to sponsor the golf tournament, with the hopes that the community will also support the event for the same reasons that we do.鈥
