Weyburn players set for 2023 Box Lacrosse National Championships

This championship celebrates the excellence of lacrosse and also serves as an opportunity to promote diversity and inclusivity in the sport.

The Saskatchewan Lacrosse Association (SLA) will host the 2023 Box Lacrosse National Championships in Regina from Aug. 14-20, with several Weyburn Lacrosse players to take part.

WEYBURN - The Saskatchewan Lacrosse Association (SLA) will host the 2023 Box Lacrosse National Championships in Regina from Aug. 14-20, with several Weyburn Lacrosse players to take part.

The opening ceremonies will take place at Mosaic Stadium on Monday, Aug. 14 at 7 p.m.

This event will witness the convergence of seven National Championships, all taking place simultaneously at the Co-operators Centre. Showcasing the nation’s finest Lacrosse talent, aged 11 to 21, this championship promises to be a landmark event for Canada’s National Summer Sport.

Weyburn Lacrosse athletes who are attending include the following.

For U13 females, Yael Herriot, Julie Labrecque, Paycen  Babiarz, Hunter Moon and Bree Tuchscherer. For the U15 male competition, the players are Alex Labrecque, Hudson Maloney and Quinton Stinson. Sawyer Leko will be playing in the U17 male championship, and the U17 female players include Brittney Honig, Callie Dammann, Ella Schenher and Jorja Ashworth.

A highlight of this year’s championships is the inclusion of the U13 Female Festival, alongside the return of the U22 Female division.

With these additions, the 2023 Box National Championships will witness all-female teams competing in four different championships for the first time, marking a significant moment in Lacrosse history.

This championship not only celebrates the excellence of lacrosse but also serves as an opportunity to promote diversity and inclusivity in the sport.
