Three Weyburn Minor Ball teams had a strong finish to their season over the weekend, with the 15U AA boys team winning provincials, and two other teams finishing well.
The 15U AA team was in Saskatoon. In their first game, they went up against Saskatoon where they took the win with a 14-4 final score. The 15U AA boys were tied for second and battled on Sunday morning to get their seat in the finals. Their first game of the day went into extra innings where they took the win over Unity, 8-7.
The East Central Dodgers took the win from the boys later in the day with a score of 12-8. On Sunday, the Weyburn 15U AA came out as the Tier I Provincial Champs following an 11-4 victory over Meadow Lake Sox.
They are back-to-back champions, and are now off to Westerns, which will be held on Aug. 19-21 in Estevan.
At the 11U AA provincials over the weekend, the Weyburn 11U AA Beavers won both games on Saturday, sending them to the semi-finals Sunday morning in Moose Jaw.
Weyburn took the “W” against Moose Jaw Canucks Black 17-7 on Saturday morning, and the game against Saskatoon Blue Jay Rhinos ended with a 10-2 win.
In the semi finals on Sunday, Weyburn lost against the Saskatoon Royal Mavericks 16-9, putting them in third place overall.
The 11U AAA Beavers played in provincials in Estevan, and had a great first game winning 14-4 against Swift Current. In the semi finals Sunday morning, the Beavers won 12-6 over the Lumsden Cubs, but in the A final, they lost to Yorkton 19-16.
On Thursday night the U13 Weyburn Wild girls started their round robin games at the 2022 U13 B Provincial Championship. First they played the Regina Fighting Saints and won 16-6, and on Friday night they played the Twin City Angels, winning by the score of 11-8.
The Wild then played the Saskatoon Hustlers Green on Saturday, and recorded another win by the score of 14-8. The U13 Wild finished round robin play 4-0 with a win by the score of 19-12 against the Meadow Lake Sox.
In the quarter-finals, the Wild battled hard but unfortunately they couldn’t hold the Battleford Bandits and finished their provincial run with a 11-3 loss after five innings.
Two Weyburn teams will be playing in provincials this coming weekend, with the 18U AA Beavers in Yorkton, and the 13U AAA in Maidstone.
