WEYBURN – Teams for Weyburn Lacrosse Association are in the midst of a busy schedule of games, including hosting an all-day tournament on Saturday for the U7 and U9 teams at the Tom Zandee Sports Arena.
Interspersed in the day’s schedule, the new junior team, the Weyburn Razorbacks, had two games against the Swift Wolverines, and they took a 7-1 loss in the first game, and lost a high-scoring second game 9-5.
The Razorbacks’ home opener for the season was on Wednesday evening, where they were edged out 10-9 by the Regina Barracudas.
In the home opener, Ryder Hignett had four goals, including three in a row in the third period, two on the power play; Jack Missal had two goals; and the other goals were by Samuel Borschowa, Landon Redman and Blake Becker.
In the first loss on Saturday, Hignett got Weyburn’s only goal in the 7-1 loss.
In the second game, goals were scored by Hignett (two), Nick Huntley, Borschowa and Redman in the 9-5 loss.
The next action for the Razorbacks will be a road game in Moose Jaw on Saturday, May 11, and the next home game will be on May 17 when they again host the Barracudas.
On Tuesday night, two Weyburn teams played, with the U15 Weyburn Young Fellow Thrashers taking a 5-0 win over the QCMBL Waterdogs.
Hudson Maloney had three goals, with the other two Weyburn goals by Shiloh Mickler and Evrhet Schenher.
The U17 Panther Drilling Thrashers took a 12-2 loss at home to the Moose Jaw Mustangs. Weyburn’s goals were scored by Tayven Nordin and Brody Morrice.
In other road games on Saturday, the U15 Weyburn Completely Branded Thrashers were edged out 6-5 by the Swift Current Rampage, while the Young Fellows Thrashers won 4-1 over the Rampage.
Goals by the Completely Branded Thrashers were by Maddox Mohan (two), Leo Missal (two) and Steele Ozmun.
The YF Thrashers goals were by Korven Pouteaux, Mickler, with two by Maloney, both in the third period.
The U13 Weyburn Securities Thrashers, meanwhile, had a 7-2 win over the QCMBL Riot Squad.
Ryder Stepp had two goals, and Julie Lebrecque had four, two of them in the third period, with Felix Wawro scoring the other goal for Weyburn.
