Weyburn Iron Pigs open season with strong win

Weyburn will host the Regina Ghosts on Thursday, May 26 at 7:30 p.m. at Tom Laing Park

WEYBURN – The Weyburn Iron Pigs began their 2022 season with a home game against the Regina Rockies, winning 11-1 on 14 hits and 11 runs over five innings.

The game was held at Tom Laing Park in Weyburn, and had a late start as the players waited for the umpire to arrive.

The Iron Pigs opened with three runs in the first inning, and four runs in the second and in the third innings.

The offence included a two-run home run by Will Morris in the first inning over the centre field fence.

Ethan Orsted was on the mound for four of the five innings, allowing six hits, one run and getting two strike-outs.

Eric Evans came on in relief for the last inning, getting one strike-out.

The next home game for the Iron Pigs will be on Thursday, May 26 versus the Regina Ghosts, starting at 7:30 p.m. at Tom Laing Park.

This will be followed by a game on Friday, June 3 versus the Regina Dodgers, also at 7:30 p.m., before a series of road games.

Weyburn will visit the Moose Jaw Padres on June 7, with the first pitch at 7 p.m., followed a game on June 10 versus the Ghosts at 8:45 p.m. at Currie Field, and on June 17 at Currie Field versus the Rockies, again at 8:45 p.m.
