Weyburn Gold Wings midget AAA girls compete at Two Nations Cup

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Gold Wings participated in the Two Nations Cup over the past week in Brampton, Ont., and made it to the quarter-finals.

WEYBURN – The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Gold Wings participated in the Two Nations Cup over the past week in Brampton, Ont., and made it to the quarter-finals.

The competition was part of the Two Nations College Prep Series, held on Dec. 1-3, with U18 and U15 teams from across Canada and the U.S.

The midget AAA girls were edged out in a close game, 2-1, to the PEI Eastern Stars in the quarter-finals on Sunday. Victoria Mann scored the Gold Wings’ goal.

The girls opened action at the Cup with a 3-2 win over the Kemptville Thunder.

Abigail Manz scored one goal, assisted by Kaydance Ray. Hadley Revenko scored from Addison Longmore, and Mann scored, assisted by Kiah Shields.

Weyburn then shut out the Guelph Jr. Gryphons by a score of 2-0, with goals by Manz, and Kaitlyn Mah from Nola Exner. Amy Swayze earned the shutout in net.

The Gold Wings then notched their third win of the competition, winning 2-1 over the St. Louis Blues.

Peyton Halayka scored on an assist by Julia Durr, and Mann scored unassisted.

With the record of 3-1, the Weyburn team finished third in Pool A, which consisted of 10 teams.

Following the quarter-final match against PEI, the team visited the Hockey Hall of Fame, and Ripley’s Aquarium, as they did some sightseeing around the area.
