WEYBURN – The Weyburn Beavers won and lost in a home-and-home pair of games with the Regina Red Sox over the weekend, and began the weekend with a loss in Swift Current.
Weyburn won 4-2 in Regina on Saturday, and then were doubled by the Red Sox 10-5 on Sunday afternoon in a Father’s Day match at Tom Laing Park. On Friday, the Beavers began the weekend with a loss to the 57s by the score of 8-5.
In the win on Saturday, Ethan Webster was the winning pitcher, with Jacob Clark getting the save. Webster pitched for most of the game, on the mound for eight innings, allowing seven hits and one run, and getting five strike-outs. Clark allowed three hits and one run, and got three strike-outs.
Ryan Dauphinee, Ryan Muizelaar, Tyren Dorrance and Robert Gurney all had RBIs on the game. Runs were scored by Dauphinee, Tristan Madison, Dorrance and Jared Hall.
At home on Sunday, Weyburn had a strong start, getting two runs in the first inning, but then they allowed three runs by Regina.
Jack Kovanen was on the mound as the losing pitcher for three and a third innings, followed by Brett Paterson for one and two-thirds innings; Cole McGregor for two-thirds of an inning; Jamin Smith for one and a third innings; Luke Zimmer and Angel Rios both for one full inning.
Kovanen allowed eight hits and seven runs, and got three strike-outs, while Paterson allowed one hit and one run, getting one strike-out; McGregor allowed one hit and one run, getting one strike-out; Zimmer had one strike-out, and Rios allowed two hits and one run, and got two strike-outs.
Dauphinee scored two runs, and single runs were scored by Brett Potter, Trent Lawson and Matt Rachman.
In Swift Current, the losing pitcher was Jared Eifler, who threw for four and a third innings, before he was relieved by Brayden Mayencourt for one and two-thirds innings. McGregor pitched for two-thirds of an inning, and Clark pitched for one and a third innings to finish.
On offence, Jaxson Davis scored two runs, with singles scored by Dauphinee, Muizelaar and Lawson.
Earlier, on Wednesday and Thursday, the Beavers dropped a pair of games to the visiting Fort McMurray squad, by scores of 10-6 and 9-3.
The Beavers were at home to Regina on Tuesday night, and then will be on a road swing, starting with two games in Okotoks on Thursday and Friday, June 22-23, then they are in Lethbridge on June 24-25, and in Brooks for two games, on June 26-27. The Beavers next home games will be to host Medicine Hat on June 28 and 29.
