Weyburn Beavers split weekend games with Okotoks Dawgs

The Weyburn Senior Beavers split their weekend games hosting the Okotoks Dawgs at Tom Laing Park, and dropped a doubleheader to Moose Jaw

WEYBURN – The Weyburn Senior Beavers split their weekend games hosting the Okotoks Dawgs at Tom Laing Park, and dropped a doubleheader to the Moose Jaw Miller Express on Friday evening.

At home on Saturday, with an afternoon game held as part of the Weyburn Fair, the Beavers doubled the Dawgs by a score of 4-2, but then on Sunday, they were pounded 15-1. The games versus Moose Jaw were losses by scores of 7-2 and 2-0.

In the game on Fair day, the winning pitcher was Luke Zimmer, and Jamin Smith was credited with the save. Zimmer was on the mound for seven and a third innings, Jared Clark threw for part of an inning, and Smith came on in relief for one inning.

Zimmer recorded seven strike-outs, allowing two hits and one run, and Clark allowed one hit and one run. Smith had two hits but no runs.

On offence, Ryan Dauphinee had two hits, one run and one RBI; Muizelaar had two hits and one RBI; Ryan McCarthy had one hit; Robert Gurney had one hit and one run; Jaxson Davis had two hits, one run and an RBI; and Jared Hall had three hits, one run and one RBI.

It was a different story on Sunday afternoon, as the Beavers only scored one run, scored by Tyren Dorrance, with Dauphinee getting the RBI.

The losing pitcher was Owen McConnell, on the mound for five and two-thirds innings, allowing five hits and seven runs, and getting four strike-outs. Brett Paterson pitched for one and a third innings, allowing three hits and four runs, getting two strike-outs; Mason Fichter pitched for two innings, allowing two hits and four runs, and getting two strike-outs.

In Friday’s doubleheader, the Beavers were edged out 2-0 in the first game, and Angel Rios was named the losing pitcher, on the mound for the full six innings. He allowed five hits and two runs, and had three strike-outs.

In the second game, Ryan Meyer was the losing pitcher in a 7-2 score, on the mound for four and two-thirds innings. He allowed five hits and six runs, and had six strike-outs. Clark pitched for an inning, allowing one hit and one run, and got one strike-out, and Fichter pitched the final third of an inning.

Runs were scored by Dauphinee and Davis, with Muizelaar scoring an RBI.

The Beavers do a home-and-home with Regina on Tuesday and hosting on Wednesday, and then will be on a long road trip, not playing at home again until July 23.

They play Thursday and Friday in Medicine Hat, in Swift Current on July 17, then they play in Sylvan Lake, two nights in Fort McMurray and back in Sylvan Lake before returning home.
