WEYBURN – The Weyburn Beavers opened the 2024 season in the Western Canadian Baseball League hosting the Moose Jaw Miller Express on Friday evening at Tom Laing Field, and the Swift Current 57s on Saturday evening.
Weyburn lost both matches, by a score of 5-3 to Moose Jaw, and 9-5 to Swift Current.
Ryan Meyer was the losing pitcher for the Beavers, and he was on the mound for seven innings, allowing seven hits, four runs and making six strike-outs.
Owen McConnell pitched one inning, getting one strike-out, and Joe Hart was up for one inning, allowing one hit, one run and getting two strike-outs.
Weyburn had three runs, scored by Dallas Cummins, Ryan Muizelaar and Ian Heck, with Cummins getting one hit, Muizelaar one hit, Heck one hit and Tyren Dorrance had one hit.
On Saturday night, Ian Heck was the starting pitcher and was on the mound for six innings, allowing six hits and three runs, and getting 10 strike-outs.
Aiden Maas pitched for one inning, allowing three hits and two runs, and getting one strike-out; Angel Fragozo threw for two-thirds of an inning, allowing three hits and three runs; and Logan Wortman threw for one and a third innings, allowing three hits and one run, and getting two strike-outs.
Heck got two RBIs on the night, Ryan Webster and Jacob Carlson each had one. Cummins, Smith, Heck, Niko Kekatos and Webster each had one run.
Lethbridge will play Tuesday and Wednesday at Tom Laing Park, and then Saskatoon visits on Friday, May 31.
