WCS Eagles football pound Swift Current Colts in home game

WCS Intermediate boys volleyball wins bronze at a Moose Jaw tournament

WEYBURN – The WCS Eagles football team hosted the Swift Current Colts on Saturday afternoon at Darold Kot Field.

Weyburn and Swift have long had a great head-to-head matchup with a fairly even win-loss record over the years between the two schools. Weyburn claimed this game by the score of 44-7.

Saturday’s game started with some strong defense on both sides with a quiet first few minutes. The Eagles opened the scoring at the eight-minute mark with a punt return touchdown from Kaleb Berg.

In the second quarter Carter Houghton added a field goal before Owen Istace ran in his first touchdown of the day in from 49 yards out. Shortly after, the Eagles extended their lead with another punt return for a TD from Kaleb Berg.

Just before half, an injury to a Swift Current player resulted in a delay for an ambulance pick up and the teams started up again for the second half.

There was more defensive play in the second half on both sides, and there were a few big plays from both sides but no major scores.

Late in the fourth quarter, the Eagles struck again with their Grade 10 running back Spencer Bell as he took a handoff and ran 39 yards into the end zone.

Swift reset themselves and put together a strong late drive to score their first touchdown of the game to make the score 44-7.

The top statistic leaders: Owen Istace had 139 yards rushing, and QB Nolan Uhren went 10 for 17 in passing for 117 yards. As a team, the Eagles had 268 rushing yards.
