The Big Six Playoffs are underway with the Wawota Flyers looking to defend last year’s championship. Wawota is currently in competition with the Redvers Rockets leading by one game at The Observer’s deadline; while the Yellow Grass Wheat Kings has earned a 8-6 win over the Bienfait Coalers in the first of their best of five series.
               Wawota faced off against the Rockets on Wednesday, Feb. 22, where Wawota earned a 4-3 win in Redvers. Redvers led the goals with one in the first by Kelsey Kenler assisted by Todd Gervais.
               Heading into the second the teams battled it out with Wawota earning a goal by Kayle Swanson assisted by Kevin Lincoln and Warren Hunter. Under a minute later Redvers answered back with a goal by Remi Lamotte assisted by Braden Liboiron. While, sixteen seconds later Wawota found the net again with Devin Stewart earning a goal assisted by Taylor Ernst.
               With the game tied 2-2, it came down to the third period. Wawota found the net quickly with a goal two minutes in by Taylor Ernst assisted by Devin Stewart and Dylan Lamontagne. Five minutes later Kent Sauter put away a goal with an assist by Rob West to take a two goal lead. Redvers put in the effort and scored a third goal with 5:43 left in the game by Craig Gaudet assisted by Brady Fidierchuk.
               The teams battled, but the Wawota Flyers came out on top. They played on Tuesday, Feb. 28, and Wednesday, March 1, as well. If needed the other of the best of five matches will be decided, so check out next week’s Observer with updates on Big Six Action.
