The G.F. Kells High School is set to be a hub of activity on Nov. 17-18 with the girls 3A Provincial Volleyball to be held.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Coach/Manager of the team Trent Johnson explains, 鈥淐arlyle will be the first gym and Oxbow will be the second gym.鈥

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淥pening ceremonies will take place here in Carlyle in the gym on the Friday at 10:45 a.m.鈥

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The tournament will see 10 teams compete between the two communities with playoffs beginning on Nov. 18 at 12:30 p.m., while the Bronze medal match is expected for 4:30 p.m. and the final is to be held at 5:30 p.m.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The excitement surrounding the big day has been well supported with fantastic sponsors, Johnson says: 鈥淭he support has been amazing. Thank you to all of our sponsors, it鈥檚 been excellent. They鈥檝e given either monetary donations or products, it鈥檚 been really wonderful.鈥

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淭hank you to the staff and our executive as well who have worked on this.鈥

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Right now, Johnson says, the biggest need though is volunteers.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淲e will need approximately 75 volunteers throughout the weekend,鈥 Johnson explained. 鈥淲e will need people working in the canteen, at the gate, the clothing boutique, and minor officials [linesing and score keeping].鈥

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 He added, 鈥淲e will be having a welcome breakfast for teams, parents of players, and for all volunteers on Friday, between 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. at Memorial Hall.鈥

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 All volunteers will also receive a volunteer t-shirt for donating their time.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 As for the competition Johnson is looking forward to this season in general.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淲e came out with a good start this season at our home tournament and we鈥檒l be going to Kipling, Weyburn, and Yorkton in coming weeks,鈥 Johnson stated. 鈥淭he girls played phenomenally and it was a great learning experience for the rookies.鈥

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淲e鈥檙e very optimistic this year and provincials will be an exciting time with this group of girls we have.鈥

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Although optimistic, Johnson knows that last year鈥檚 champions from Waldheim, will likely be back to defend their gold medal; which means Johnson and Amy Jackson (coach) will be focused on solidifying skills, encouraging team chemistry, and mental toughness.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淚t鈥檚 going to be a very busy two days and there鈥檒l be lots of great volleyball!鈥 Johnson added
