UPDATE: Weyburn-Estevan rivalry on again, McLeod Series set to start Feb. 14

This series is the longest-running tournament of its kind in Saskatchewan

WEYBURN – The historic McLeod Series has been rescheduled to begin on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, in Weyburn.

The series pits the senior boys and senior girls basketball teams from the Weyburn and Estevan Comp Schools against each other in a home-and-home series.

It was first played in 1932 with a slight break in the early 70’s as the rivalry became too intense. This is the longest-running such tournament in the province.

The series was originally set to begin on Feb. 8, but Estevan postponed the games due to the road conditions.

Weather permitting, the games will begin on Monday, Feb. 14, with the boys game at 5 p.m. and the girls will take to the court at 7 p.m., in the Eagle gym.

The return matches in Estevan will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 16.
