Tournament wraps up Estevan summer basketball league

Nine teams competed in games at the Estevan Comprehensive School.

A tournament was held in Estevan for a summer basketball league.

ESTEVAN - The Estevan Basketballers wrapped up their 2023 summer league on Aug. 19 and 20 by hosting a basketball tournament at the Estevan Comprehensive School.

A total of nine teams competed between the two different divisions. In the open division, Estevan Care and Cole finished in top spot, followed by Estevan Sunlife and the Estevan Flamethrowers. John Gohann Andres was named the division's MVP.

In the master's division for those 35 and older, the Regina Amigos were the top team, followed by Regina Master Bae and Estevan JS Truckmart.

Tiongson Reyes was the MVP of the over-35 division.

The committees for the tournament were all volunteers from the Estevan Filipino Community, who dedicated all of their time and efforts to make this event a success. The tournament also had a number of sponsors.

The committee wants to organize more sporting events in the future and is thinking about having leagues for basketball, volleyball and badminton.
