Ryan Ostertag recorded a hat trick and the Eagle Drilling Estevan Bruins held a 5-2 lead with just over eight minutes to play in the third period, but neither were enough to lift the Bruins over the Yorkton Terriers on Tuesday night.



The Terriers scored two goals in under a minute to get within one, and then tied the hockey game with 54 seconds remaining in regulation time. They then sent the Bruins and their fans home in disbelief as Kurtis Decker beat Estevan goalie Shea Cooper with 2.9 seconds left on the clock to give the Terriers the 6-5 overtime win.



Things started out well for Estevan. Ostertag's hat trick, plus goals from Josh Jelinski and Calder Neufeld combined with excellent play from Cooper had them up 5-2 and well on their way to victory. That is until the Terriers got their third goal at the 12:44 mark of the third period; it was all down hill from there.



To make matters worse, the Bruins were playing with just four defencemen by game's end. With only five blue liners dressed for the contest, Estevan lost Dominic Perraullt to injury in the second after a scary play that left him motionless on the ice. He was OK in the end and was able to skate off the ice with some assistance.



The single point earned from the overtime loss does move the Bruins into a third place tie with Weyburn for the time being. Both teams have two games remaining, with Estevan back at home Thursday night to the Notre Dame Hounds. Puck drop is at 7:30 at the Civic.
