The Estevan Lafrentz Trucking Steelers will be the same team in name only when they kick off their 2010 Regina Minor Football schedule Aug. 22.While head coach Murray Fischer is returning for a third season with the Steelers, he will be delgating more responsibility to Randy Labrecque, one of three new coaches this year. The Steelers will also be looking to replace 16 players from their 2009 squad - most of whom have graduated to the high school ranks -and will look to be more aggressive on both sides of the ball."We've basically wiped the slate clean," said Fischer. "We've got a brand new playbook on both sides of the ball. We've got three new coaches this year and our defence is going to be covering a lot more of the field."Our D is going to be really different this year because we're going to be more of a pursuit team as opposed to read and react. We're going to force the play a lot."And on the offensive side we're going to feature more of a running game. We're going to possibly have three running backs in the backfield and we're going to look to do a lot of misdirection plays."Key to the running game will be Evan Tarnes and Colton Bachorcik. Bachorcik moved last season from defensive back to running back and will be counted on "to make some big plays."Fischer says the team will also count on Eric Arnott at middle linebacker as the Steelers seek to rebound from a winless season in 2009.As in each of the past two years, Fischer says the Steelers will be building toward their game with the Weyburn Raiders. That game is slated for Oct. 2 at Dana Quewezance Memorial Field."I think we match up well with Notre Dame (Sept. 11 at Quewezance Field) as well," said Fischer. "They're fairly inexperienced, just like us, but really every game is important."The Steelers open the season Aug. 22 in Regina against the Packers and make their home debut Aug. 28 at Quewezance Field against the Regina Raiders.Estevan Minor Football's other two teams kick off their RMF seasons Saturday in Regina, with the peewee Chargers taking on the Regina Unicorns and the atom Miners facing the Regina Gaitors.
