ASSINIBOIA - Bradyn Giraudier felt very satisfied after winning two silver medals at the 2022 Canada Summer Games. He was able to capture new personal best times in his silver medal performances in the Men’s Special Olympic 100m event and 200m events.
Giraudier was one of three Assiniboia athletes who competed with Team Sask., during the 2022 Canada Summer Games, held in Niagara over two weeks. His brother Kyle Giraudier and Logan Fettes also competed during the games.
Bradyn had captured new personal best times during the preliminary heats for the 100 m and 200 m. When it came time to compete in the final for the 100 m, he felt pretty relieved after seeing his time when the race completed.
“There were three other guys who were running the same speed as me in the finals. After the start, I felt like I had a shot, and it was very satisfying to cross the finish and know I won silver,” said Giraudier.
“It was also satisfying because I earned a new personal best in that race. I felt pretty relieved, because I had trained so hard for that race. It was a clean run.”
He noted that he felt less stressed in the 200 m race, as he had already completed a good run for the 100 m. “I felt pretty good for the 200 m, because I knew I could just leave it all out there as it was my last event. I just kept pushing myself.”
“It was a lot of work to train for the two events, which is a short period of time for the actual competition, so I am very appreciative of the fact that I had earned new personal bests during the event,” added Giraudier.
There was a little bit of brotherly competition in the finals, as Bradyn and Kyle were in the same race for the finals. The brothers still supported each other and cheered each other on during the preliminary heats, and right before competing against each other in the final race.
Overall, Bradyn said that he really liked the environment of the Canada Summer Games. “I enjoyed the closing ceremonies, and it was truly a spectacular sight to have a chance to see Niagara Falls.”
Bradyn is going to keep training himself, as he will compete in the Western Canada Games next year, and is still eligible for the next Canada Summer Games.
“I want to push myself, and potentially make the Worlds,” said Giraudier.
