MOOSEJAWTODAY.COM -- Maybe it was the weather, maybe it was a successful season of training or maybe there’s something in the water, but it was a special day for many an athlete at the Moose Jaw High Schools Athletic Association track and field championships.
The event took place on Wednesday at Gutheridge Field and saw a host of new records set, including a couple that had been on the books for decades.
That included one of the longest-standing records on the books, as Peacock’s Nikolina Kapovic broke Deb Noble’s 49-year-old mark in the senior girls 1,500 metres. The provincial gold medal hopeful also took down the 20-year-old mark set by Kailey Smith in 2004 in the 3,000 metres.
Kapovic wasn’t the only double record-setter, either.
Cornerstone’s Ademide Adewumi continued to re-write the throws record books, setting new city marks in the shot put and discus, while Central’s Blake Maltais broke the intermediate girls triple jump and long jump records.
