Senior Golf Tournament at Carlyle Golf Course

Carlyle Golf Course hosts Senior Golf Tournament

Thank you to all businesses and individuals who donated prizes to the Senior Golf Tournament

Seventy-two people came out on Aug. 10 to the Carlyle Golf Course to participate in their latest senior golf tournament.

The event — which has happened in previous years, but not last year due to COVID-19 — had an overwhelming turnout. The majority of the golfers came from communities outside of Carlyle, including Oxbow, Carnduff, Redvers, Alameda, Kenosee and White Bear.

A shotgun start was at 10:30 a.m., with the whole of the tournament and awards ceremony ending by 4 p.m.

The tournament was done a little differently from most, with it being a two-person best-ball event, rather than an individual one. The winners of the men’s and women’s closest to the pin part of the tournament were Bonnie Thompson from Oxbow and Ken Appell from Wawota. For the long putt, the winners were Barb Weber from Kenosee and Wayne Paxman from Alberta (formerly from Carlyle).

Finally, for the men’s and women’s long drive, Mike Vrity from Carnduff and Donna Cofmey from Kenosee Lake won.

There were several sponsors from Carlyle that helped to fund door prizes — which were given to most of the golfers — as well as free burgers, coffee and water.

Overall, the tournament went well. Gord Paulley, who was one of the organizers, explained that this event was important for more reasons than just giving the golfers a good time. Their goal was to reach out to the communities around Carlyle, which was fulfilled really well due to the amount of out-of-town people that came to the tournament.

“It was to highlight Carlyle and the Carlyle Golf Course to other towns in the area.”
