Weyburn and area residents are getting out their running shoes for the second annual Bakken Run. Weyburn Tourism is hosting the community race on Saturday, August 21.

Manager of Weyburn Tourism Lacey Johnson said there are some new and exciting changes to this year's Bakken Run.

"Due to the tremendous success of last year's run, we decided to add a five-kilometre run this year as well," said Johnson "After listening to the local running community, it was expressed that 10 kilometres was a little too far for novice runners, and by adding a five-kilometre run route, we can ensure success for participants that maybe have just started running or are more comfortable running shorter distances."

The Bakken Run will begin with runner registration from 9 to 9:30 a.m. in front of Assiniboia Park Elementary School. The race will start at 9:30 a.m. in front of the school on Fifth Avenue.

For those interested in running, the registration form and run route are available on the Weyburn Tourism website or at the office.

The cost to enter is $25 per runner which includes a free gift bag and lunch afterwards. All proceeds of the run will go to the Weyburn and District Hospital Foundation Inc.

"We encourage everyone in the community to come out and cheer-on our home-grown and visiting runners," said Johnson.
