The Saskota Ball League is off to a great start, being that there is not too much anyone can do to entertain themselves outside the confines of their home.
The season started on July 2 with all nine teams from last year ready to go. Four games were played opening night and one team had a bye.
The fans were ready for some baseball with most teams having very good turnouts and very entertaining games.
The second week of play saw the Oxbow Chiefs play at Kenosee looking for their first win after losing their home opener. The Kenosee Cubs were 1-1 going into the night’s action, after dropping their opener to the Kipling Royals, but coming back to defeat the Carnduff Astros 5-3 in their home opener. Carnduff held an early 3-1 lead in that one before the Cubs went up two in the seventh. Damon Kyle closed out the Astros with a 1-2-3 inning sending the reigning champs down to defeat.
The Cubs started early against Oxbow, chasing starting pitcher Liam Rutten in the first and taking a lead, however Oxbow chased the Cubs starter Jose Reyes in the second inning and went on to a 9-7 victory in front of a large crowd who witnessed a very entertaining game.
The Kipling Royals travelled to Arcola on July 9, gaining their second shutout of the season and keeping their season perfect at 2-0, also in front of a very good-sized home crowd at the fairgrounds.
The Carlyle Cardinals are also undefeated, shutting out the Carnduff Astros 14-0 in last week’s action, keeping their season perfect and sitting on top of the standings at 3-0.
The season is a short one, so anyone that is looking to see some baseball can check the Saskota league website for schedules, scores and standings.
