Regina Pats lose contests against Winnipeg Ice

After a two-game stint against the Winnipeg Ice last week, the Regina Pats are heading west for a seven-game road trip.

REGINA — The Regina Pats lost both of their road contests against the Winnipeg Ice last week. The Regina squad enters this week with a 9-11-1-1 record.

Fans saw a lot of red on Nov. 17 in Winnipeg. The Pats and Ice combined for 14 goals in a 9-5 Winnipeg victory. Regina led 2-1 after the first period. With three Ice goals and one from the Regina crew in the second period, the contest was deadlocked at 4-4 heading into the final frame. The hosts outscored the Pats, 5-1, in the third. Winnipeg was three-for-six on the power play, while Regina was two-for-five.

Scoring for Regina were Stanislav Svozil, Tanner Howe, Layton Feist, Braxton Whitehead, and Connor Bedard. Alexander Suzdalev and Bedard each had two assists. Pats goalie Matthew Kieper made 32 saves on 41 shots.

For the Ice, Matthew Savoie scored a hat trick, while Owen Pederson had two goals for the Ice. Also scoring for Winnipeg were Zach Benson, Connor Dale, Ty Nash, and Connor McClennon. Mason Beaupit had 21 saves. On Saturday, the Ice used four second-period goals to help them to a 5-2 win. The game was scoreless after one period of play. Suzdalev put Regina up 1-0 in the second. However, Winnipeg responded with goals in the period by Zach Benson (two), McClennon and Connor Geekie. Benson scored once on a power play and once shorthanded. In the third, Suzdalev, on a power play, got his second of the night to make it 4-2. The Ice’s Ty Nash deposited the puck into an empty net.

In net, Drew Sim made 28 saves for the Pats. Beaupit finished with 28 saves.

The Pats are headed west. They begin a seven-game road trip by playing the Vancouver Giants on Friday and the Victoria Royals on Saturday.
