Regina Pats look to end losing streak in 4-game week

It is a busy week for the Pats with four games. They host Brandon on Wednesday and Moose Jaw on Friday. The team then is in Moose Jaw on Saturday and Saskatoon Sunday.

REGINA — The Regina Pats are looking to snap a four-game losing streak.

It is a busy week for the Pats with four games. They host Brandon on Wednesday and Moose Jaw on Friday. The team then is in Moose Jaw on Saturday and Saskatoon Sunday. As of Sunday, the Pats were 31-27-3-1. They were sixth on the Western Hockey League’s Eastern Conference.

On March 8 in Regina, the Edmonton Oil Kings led 2-1 and 3-1 at the intermissions on their way to a 3-2 win. Tye Spencer and Connor Bedard scored for Regina. Luke Robson, Marshall Finnie, and Gavin Hodnett had Edmonton’s goals. Pats goalie Kelton Pyne made 27 saves on 30 shots. Kolby Hay had 31 save for the Oil Kings.

Playing in Lethbridge on March 10, the Pats fell 5-4 in overtime to the host Hurricanes. The Pats came out strong and led 3-1 after one. In the opening frame, Bedard and Tanner Howe scored on the power play while Braxton Whitehead had an even strength goal. Jett Jones scored with the man advantage for Lethbridge.

In the second period, Spencer scored on a power play and the Hurricanes got goals from Miguel Marques and Tyson Zimmer. The Pats led 4-3. Lethbridge’s Joe Arntsen scored the lone goal in the third period to tie things up at 4-4, while Logan McCutcheon netted the game winner in OT.

Drew Sim stopped 34 shots for Regina. He was backed up by Cruz Chase. The Pats signed the 2007-born goalie from Airdrie in February and called him up last week. For the Hurricanes, Bryan Thomson made 22 saves.

The Pats fell 7-0 on the road to the Medicine Hat Tigers on March 11. Sim turned away 33 of the 40 shots the Tigers sent his way. Andrew Basha scored four times for Medicine Hat. The Tigers also got goals from Gavin McKenna,, Tomas Mrsic, and Rhett Parsons.
