Pee Wee Cougars work for the win

The Carlyle Pee Wee Cougars pounced into Arcola for an evening matchup on Wednesday, January 14 th . The action was fast and furious early on with Arcola drawing first blood, finding the back of the net just a minute and a half in.

The Carlyle Pee Wee Cougars pounced into Arcola for an evening matchup on Wednesday, January 14th.  The action was fast and furious early on with Arcola drawing first blood, finding the back of the net just a minute and a half in. Adrien Riddell put one in just 59 seconds later, tying the game at 1.  It didn’t take Arcola long to bounce back though, taking the lead just 19 seconds later. Play would settle down after that, with Brody Yuzicappi and Logan Young adding first period goals. The Cats headed into the dressing room after 1 with a 3-2 lead.  The kids came out hard in the second, doubling up on Arcola. The hard skating Spenser Bell added two of the next four goals, ending the second up 7 -4. The Cats dug their claws in deep for the last frame, scoring three more for a 10-5 victory.

Friday, January 16th saw the young Blue Shirts head to Kipling for another evening game vs. the Royals.  Kipling came out hard, controlling most of the play through the first, ending the period up 1-0.   Carlyle turned the tables in the second, outscoring the Royals 3-1 in the frame, leaving the visitors up by one after 2. The Royals really poured it on in the 3°ù»å.Ìý  However, with the trio of Hayden McArthur solid on the offensive blue line and Devin Loustel’s wheels on the back check and goaltender Missy Biermann’s glove, the youngsters were able to weather the storm. This was a hard fought game from start to finish and was very fun to watch. We saw and mentioned some standouts in this game but the entire team was tested all game and earned a very hard-fought 5-3 win.

On Saturday, January 17th the Cats took part in Carlyle Minor Hockey Day, playing the Estevan Tower Wolves in an exhibition game.   Once again, the opposing team was the first to hit the score boa°ù»å.Ìý The Cats worked hard and the first period was quite a battle ending tied up 2 -2. Carlyle got themselves into penalty trouble in the second and it cost them as Estevan outscored them 4-0 in the period. The young Cats tried to rally in the third but the hole was just too deep, dropping the matchup with a final score of 9-6.
