In the first game of the day, feeling comfortable in his equipment Alexander Bradley made some nice saves. While Grady Benjamin stood strong on the blue line, making sure the puck didn't cross the blue line. Everett Brown wasted no time passing the puck up the ice to Daine Thomas who was on a breakaway and shot the puck at the net, but hit the post. With his smooth stride, Kale Arndt moved up the ice toward the opponents net making it impossible for Whitewood to get possession of the puck. Mason Barta worked hard during this game and got himself a hat trick and the "Player of the Game" award. These kids play like a team, every time they are on the ice, they are passing back and forth to one another and it made Coach Wade proud when the coach on the Whitewood team commented on how well this team passed to one another, he said he has never seen a team pass as much as this team. Good job Carlyle Cougars!! Whitewood won against the Cougars, but the Cougars looked on to their next game against Yorkton.
During this fast paced game Samantha Colpitts held the blue line making it hard for Yorkton to get at our net. When they did slip by our defense, Darcy Rae was ready for anything they could shoot at her. She stopped so many goals she was given "Player of the Game" award. While our goalie was holding her own in net, Ty Ferhenbach and Jakson Humphries were putting all their skills they learned in practice to use and Ty put the puck in the net when Jakson Humphries passed it over to him from the corner. Blake Robertson followed in their footsteps by putting the puck in the back of the net. The cougars put the pressure on Yorkton in the third period but had to walk away with Yorkton taking the win.
The Cougars third game of the tournament was played against a second Whitewood team. Chase Robertson proved he was a well-rounded hockey player doing as great a job in net as he does playing forward which earned him "Player of the Game". This gave Mitch Himmelspach time to put a point on the score board in the first period and Kale Arndt fires one in a minute after him. With Chase Himmelspach on the ice making some nice passes, one just happened to be to Tyrell Dixon who sped up the ice to the Whitewood net and took a shot placing the puck way in the back of their net. Whitewood won this game, but it was a close one. Good job Cougars!
On December 7th and 8th, the Cougars head to Estevan for a weekend full of hockey and fun. These kids were well rested and you could tell by the way they were hustling. Samantha Colpitts suited up for the first game and made it tough for the Crosby players to put the puck in the net. Mason Barta put the pressure on with his fast feet and quick hands. Ty Fehrenbach is always a digger when he's on the ice, making it hard for the other team to keep possession of the puck. Alexander Bradley makes it look so easy when he's on defense, keeping everything out of our end. Everett Brown played his position very well and earned himself "Player of the Game", award. The Cougars won this game with awesome teamwork, good job Cougars!
The Cougars played their second game against Midale and played one of their best games yet. Tyrell Dixon played in net for his team during this game and managed a shutout. Mitch Himmelspach dug in the corner and always took a look to pass the puck.
Chase Robertson carried the puck up the ice and put the puck in the net several times giving the Cougars a lead. Grady Benjamin found his place on the ice and has proved himself a natural defense and earned the "Player of the Game" award because of it. Blake Robertson is always a team player when he is on defense. The Cougars won this game making it a two game winning streak and they would move on to the final.
During the final game of the tournament the Cougars battle for the win against the Estevan Flames. The fans never seen these kids play as good as they did during this game. The team was confident as the game began with Kale Arndt in net, showing off his moves with every puck that came his way. Jakson Humphries rushed the puck up the ice along the boards and passed it in front of the net knowing one of his teammates would be there waiting for it. Darcy Rae and Daine Thomas played the blue line like a pair of pros knowing that the other one had the others back. The players could always count on Max Waugh to be in his position, going wide to the net and making the pass. Max's great teamwork earned him "Player of the Game" award. The Cougars won this game with a score of 10-4. The Carlyle Cougars won the tournament and were awarded trophies for all of their hard work and team effort. Good weekend Cougars! This Thursday the Carlyle Cougars go to Wawota for a regular league game.
